Umbrellas & Scarves at Harvey Nichols

posted by London Undercover on 2011.09.30, under News, Retailers, Scarves, Umbrellas

Harvey Nichols was originally founded in 1813 as a linen shop in a terraced house on the corner of Knightsbridge and Sloane Street in London. Benjamin Harvey passed the business on to his daughter in 1820 who went into partnership with a certain Colonel Nichols. The store began to sell Oriental carpets, silks and luxury goods alongside the linens. Harvey Nichols continued to expand until it eventually needed a new home. The existing Knightscridge store was opened in 1880 and has grown to become one of the most important and upmarket shopping destinations in the world.

We’re pleased to announce that London Undercover is now available to buy at the London & Edinburgh stores which carry a selection of umbrellas & cashmere scarves.

London Undercover Umbrellas at KIN - Know It Nothing

It’s always a pleasure to find a great store in another country. It’s refreshing and inspiring to see things being done so well overseas and the devotion from the people behind them. Continuing in our series of retailer profiles, we’d like to introduce you to one of our new stockists.

K.I.N is a project that draws sustenance and inspiration from its historic surroundings, its community and culture, and in turn provides new perceptions and thinking in design and lifestyle. It was realised to reject the notion that design and culture has become all too familiar and generic now. The solution was to use the space as a platform to merge various cultural influences in hope of creating a thought provoking concept. K.I.N provides the consumer with clothing and footwear that centres itself upon a more designed approach, instead of simply focusing on specific genres.

Located within the historic neighborhood of Kampong Glam, the store keeps the derelict semblance of heritage from the shophouse whilst retaining the raw appeal of Haji Lane, adding a refined look to the space.

The store caters to anyone who appreciates art, design, music and culture for what it is, rather than what it is made out to be. K.I.N encourages people to come into the space without any preconceived notions of the products available and to just open their minds to the disorganised organisation on offer.

Any Old Iron, 149 Orchard Street, New York

Any Old Iron is a new men’s boutique in New York’s Lower East Side specialising

in stocking rare and UK-specific menswear. Located at 149 Orchard Street between

Stanton and Rivington, the shop is the brainchild of designer/stylist, Andrew

Clancey and arts-entrepreneur, Christopher Melton.

The shop’s name is rooted in the olden cry of a scrap man collecting metal with his

horse and cart, and also hearkens to Clancey’s family scrap metal business which

was founded in 1872. “Any Old Iron” is also an Old English music hall song which

references a young man’s sartorial dandyism – a quality that is distinctly English

and ever-present in the shop’s design and the legion of British designers featured.

The full London Undercover range can be found in store, so pop in and send our best!
